Ceramic holes bathroom paper time art ????? Theres no bottom line here, just the possibility that a strong body of work may be on the way out. To paraphrase the title of the show, The body in the toilet bowl is the residue of a long, powerful body. There was a sense of déjà vu about this show. The overwhelming feeling was one of an awkwardness and disorientation, a sense that the art world had become a kind of weird, detached place. The sense of disorientation was most clearly expressed in the works that were closest to homeopathic remedies, such as the work of Jan Groover, Peter Halley, and Robert Morris, and the work of Joan Mitchell, Yvonne Rainer, and Lee Friedlander. But there was also a strong sense of the uncanny, as in the work of Philip Guston, Bruce Nauman, and Philip Taaffe. The uncanny is a feeling of being caught between worlds and worlds of the same mind, a sense that the mind that is in the toilet bowl is the same mind as the mind that is outside the toilet bowl.In this show, the toilet bowl was the opposite of the mind that is outside the toilet bowl. It was a strange place to be in, a place where the mind is like the body in the toilet bowl. When the mind is not in the toilet bowl, it is like being in a strange body of water, or a place where nothingness is everywhere. This is the strangeness of the unconscious, and it is this strangeness that the exhibition explored. The exhibition included a very large number of works by the artists that have worked with the toilet bowl as a kind of mental ground. For example, in one of the rooms, the toilet bowl was a sort of philosophical ground, a place where the mind and body are at the same time, and to a certain extent, connected.

Ceramic holes bathroom paper time art  (all works 2007) and a set of framed photographs of the kind you might find on a bus ticket. The artist was a long-time resident of the Bay Area, but she had also been living in New York for the past year and a half. Her references to San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles were cleverly evocative. The newspaper photographs on the right, for example, show the front page of the San Francisco Examiner, with the headline, LAS VEGAS, I HOPE YOU GONNA GIVE UP, its text written in a kind of cursive. The next page of the same newspaper shows the same photo, with the headline, LAUGH AT THE DEVIL, ITS A STRONG ATTACK ON YOU. The pieces seemed to be about the impossibility of achieving happiness, the impossibility of achieving happiness with the same tools. The other works were more concrete. A single-sheet photo of a man eating dinner with his eyes closed, for example, shows his eyes opened, revealing the meal as a container for his soul. In the photo, the man is not alone; there are two women seated at a table. One is his mother, a black woman with a large, round, and beautiful face; the other is his mother-in-law, a white woman with a black, round, and beautiful face. The two are sitting on a chair and eating a meal. The images on the left are a series of black-and-white photographs of the same table, which the mother-in-law is eating. The mother-in-law is alone in her house, and the mother-in-law is alone in her house. The mother-in-law is eating a meal with her eyes closed. The mother-in-law is alone in her house, and the mother-in-law is alone in her house.

Ceramic holes bathroom paper time art . . . [sic] André Bretons banal, cheap, and congealed-up toilet paper. The contrast is jarring, and at times, it seems a bit too obvious. But it isnt. Theres a lightness to the works, a naturalness, a wryness that is not meant to be taken lightly. Indeed, the way the works are arranged and arranged to be read, the way they are arranged to be hung, and the way they are arranged to be seen, all the more emphasize the idea of the work as a whole. But what is more than this is the way they are seen. These works are not seen, but they are seen by people who know them, who know the difference between seeing and being seen. They are seen not as things that they are but as things that they are not. This is something that is very important to me, and I like that difference.
