There is a ceiling of deep green acrylic that mimics the floors ceiling, an open-air window, and a small wall of concrete. There is a carpet of dark gray acrylic painted on the floor, with a seam running from the floor into a wall. The room is a loose and relaxed place, with a clean, ebullient air. The big, brightly painted curtain creates an eerie sense of drama, and the dark gray curtain looks as if it were translucent. This framing device is the artists trademark, a device that defies gravity and is more a static, banal-seeming abstraction than a well-crafted, even elegant, form. If, in the spirit of your childhood home, you could go into any room in the house and sleep, your bedroom would be that one.A sound piece for this room, entitled Miss Schulmans Haunted House, the album, called Miss Schulmans Haunted House, features three sequences of silence. This series of recordings is one of a number of tapes that the artist has made that you will get out of the Pompidous confines. Some of these tapes are about a supernatural presence, like Miss Schulmans Haunted House, when her sister, Annie, takes her to the house of the famous accountants in St. Ives, England. Miss Schulman and her sister take Annie down to the basement and hear her wailing, reading the letters in the bedroom of the house. The eerie, hushed, and inaudible sounds that make up the haunting are haunting, but a sound does not have to be scary to be exciting.In the last room of the show, Miss Schulmans Haunted House is broken into four pieces, each part of the main structure of the house.
