Well, theres a lot of them in the works, but the quality is so bad that it is hard to tell which is good. There is an awful lot of bad art in these collages, so its good to see some art being made in the American art world.

Tatum made an art collage, is it good? No, but I am willing to take the risk that it is good.When confronted with this work, we all have to admit to being amazed. After all, where else to look than the eye of a master of form? Why shouldnt he be making art? And so we enter the gallery, where we see an array of objects that seem to be form only for the very man who created them? Here is a collection of small sculptures of snakes, with three-quarter-inch slabs of plaster put on top of them to create a sense of depth. I am not sure this is the first time that this sort of thing has been done in San Francisco, but it is a terrific step forward in the art world. We have seen how it works elsewhere; the snake works in New York, for instance, or the string pieces in New Yorks Museum of Modern Art.The small sculptures here are all about the intimate, the personal, the little, the critical, and the hidden. The slabs are an essential element in this art. We find them in the background of a photograph, in a corner of the gallery, or in the corners of rooms. Some of these sculptures are made of the same material as the plaster pieces; others are made of wood, rubber, or foam. What makes these pieces so intimate and personal is their role as casts. They are the most personal objects one can have. They are like the most private objects, like the most private things, like the most private things. They can only be owned by a master. And so we all sit down to enjoy these small sculptures. In the same way that we all want to own a piece of the same kind, we all want to be allowed to own a piece of the same kind. No one person or group can own all of these small sculptures, but all of them are part of the same family.We all know that art is a product of human beings.

Because, after all, isnt a collage art, to use the term of an old saying that we are always looking for a way to get the truth? It seems to be the case that the truth in these collages is the truth, but this is the only thing they can be good for.They are supposed to be good for us, the artist and the viewer alike. But the truth is always different. Not only are these works bad for us, but they are also good for us. With the least of them, weve got a lot to be happy about.
