Description of a still life setup. My original setup was created using a variety of objects, in particular school objects. I set the big pencil away from everything so we can see the shadow from it and as for the calculator and highlighter I perfectly stacked them on top of the book to have that clean stacked effect and I chose that specific book because I really liked the aesthetic of it due to the fact that its cover says “This Is Not A Book”. I found it pretty ironic if you ask me.

The pencil was a reference to the drawing class where the students work with pencils and highlighters, and it was also a reference to the fact that the pencil was also a sharp, bright, black-and-white sign. I also found it rather ironic that I was asked to make a book and I didnt have much room to work with, but it seemed like a challenge to make something that would actually be able to do something. It wasnt really my idea to have something that was actually going to do anything. It wasnt even my idea to make a book at all. The situation was that the pencil was not visible and I was trying to make the pencil visible, and it wasnt possible. So I had to do something with it. I found a way to make it visible and then I had to figure out a way of putting it there. I didnt find any solutions, so I had to do something else. Its just that the playful materiality of the objects werent enough, and the same with the interactive nature of the situation, and its that very thing thats so important to me. And that is the object of the book. So I found myself using my knowledge of the work of Robert Ryman and of his work and I found myself thinking, This is something thats going to look like a book. And Ive always thought that the only way to do something that would look like a book is to use the objects that it is.So I did some thinking about it and I decided to do a kind of conceptual collage. I took a book and I took a collage.

The books were all neatly stacked and I was like, Oh, shit, thats a lot of clutter. I didnt know what to do with the pencil or the highlighter, so I took a picture of it and put it in the same spot where the pencil and the pencil were. It worked. I didnt realize how much it hurt the books, but it wasnt much. Its a pain in the ass. I was like, Well, this isnt something that I can do, and I dont know what to do with it.
