photography dance "black and white" "large size print" "solo exhibition" (photography, performance). The work of these artists, from Andrea Zittel to Daniel Buren, is often about the things they do: about what they do, and about what they dont do. It is a way of asking, What is the difference between being an artist and being a work of art? This is a question that applies to photography as well as to other kinds of art, such as theater. It is a question that also applies to photography as a kind of framing device, which, like a frame, is both an extension of and a distortion of the photographic process. It is a question that concerns the various ways in which the photographic process can be used to identify and represent the subjects of photography.The show included two sets of photographs, two-by-four prints of various objects and places, and a number of enlargements of photographs by Buren. All of the works were produced in a single day, and all of the objects were presented in a single installation, on the wall, in the form of a wall label. In the work shown, the label is printed on a white ground, which is covered with a sort of silk screen. The silk screen is itself a frame, and also has a white background, which is also printed on. The photographs themselves are printed on a similar silk-screen, which is then stretched over the silk screen. The result is an almost endless, endless, continuous pattern of images, which seems to suggest a continuous flow of images. The silk-screen, which is both a covering and a surface, becomes both a covering and a surface, a surface and a ground, and also a covering and a ground. The silk screen is also a photographic substrate, and it is covered with a layer of silk, which is a surface on which the photographic print is suspended. The silk-screen is a surface on which the photographic print is placed, and the prints are thus both a cover and a ground.
