Marianne McGinnis is an American artist working in the expressionist and Fauvist style. She is a member of the California Academy of Fine Arts and has taught in several of its courses. She is the author of several books on Modernism, including the classic A Short History of Modern Art, which was published in 1932.She first gained recognition in the early 1950s for her work in the Bauhaus. She had studied with the Bauhaus director, Georges Braque, and later with the French avant-garde group, the Légers. Although the Bauhaus school is usually associated with the artistic and intellectual development of the French avant-garde, McGinnis was involved in the avant-garde of social and economic life. She helped found the Socialist International, the International Socialist Institute, and the International Socialist Institute for Social Art, among other groups. After the war, she continued to be involved in the avant-garde. After a year of working with the avant-garde, she became involved in the avant-garde of art.In 1958, McGinnis began her work in the form of paintings, drawings, and collages. Her work has remained consistent for more than twenty years. The new works are reminiscent of the traditional abstract works of the time. The new paintings are less concerned with the symbolic than with the conceptual. The new drawings are still based on the same concept but are no longer based on the drawing. McGinnis uses the same technique and technique as the previous work, but she has changed her colors and her subjects.
