A good receipt from the cafeteria
A good receipt from the cafeteria in the school of art history will always be a surprise, but not when it is printed on the back of a museum poster. A new, vintage receipt is a complicated, cumbersome thing.A few years ago, a friend of mine told me that he had a receipt from the school of art history for a performance that he had just done. The performance was not so much a recitation of the past as it was a performance of the past. The student, who did not attend the school of art history, was asked to reenact the performance in the school cafeteria. The student made the same recitation of the past as the artist, and the performance was titled The Art of Recitation. The Art of Recitation was the latest work by the artist. In one of his recent shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art, a group of the works in the exhibition were exhibited in the museum lobby. Each piece was hung on the wall in a grid. A framed photograph of the student was reproduced in the grid. A framed photograph of the artist was printed in the grid. A framed photograph of the student was reproduced in the grid. , a faded copy of the same photograph, and a series of certificates that document the artists death, as well as the accidents that have caused his wounds, reveal that he was a man of integrity. He is a man of kindness, a man of generosity. I am proud to be a man like that.
