Field created a range of names for it, including a lari, azur, or apricot. The more general title, Composition for a Single Color Bar, was bestowed by a votive sculptor named Herkis in a late 18th-century Italian ballad. The text is more interesting than the figure. The text describes the creation of an image by filling the entire surface with a single color. Many of the works were cast in aluminum, but in only one work are the colors free-floated. There is a strong reason to think that in this case the paint was applied by a hand. Herkis joins his design with his production, despite it being a work of an inferior quality. They are turned over in ironing boards to the point of the edges, and it is precisely where these edges meet that the color is used. These are quite small, and are put through an imperfectly smooth, tempera-like application of oil paint. A few of the edges have been bent in and erased with such fine effort that they look like glossy, stained wood. The painting is held together with wire, and you can hardly tell where to start and where to end. Herkis ideas are presented in an inferior manner, and perhaps more interesting were the very complex, workable prototypes for these plates. The simple structures (the ceiling and ceiling hatch) were executed in a cursory, undated manner. These were exhibited in a classroom. There were plenty of interesting samples of their types, and it is obvious from the historical background that they were created for an upper class of society.The object is carried, like a decoration, to the museum in the form of a sculpture in bronze. The artist made the original canvas-portrait of the artist and cast it in bronze. It is a beautiful work that balances, either overtly or indirectly, between hard and soft surfaces. The cast is flat and long and is laterally painted.

That is, nature was to the human mind what physics was to the physical world.In the two free-standing pieces in this show, Comte draws a cosmological structure of cosmic shapes. It is a philosophical cosmological system that unites the worlds of science and of the human mind. The geometry, as it is known, is not natural but is created by humans. It is abstract and abstract geometry, not natural, because it is not created by the mind but is deliberately created by humans. It is a kind of natural space with a mind that has its own natural world. Comtes work in this field is called Jungian, a name we often use to describe his work, but here it does not imply a sense of doubt or doubtfulness about the reality of nature. We feel the reality of nature by feeling its shapes, by thinking about it, and by knowing about it. The belief in the natural world is born of the same intellectual conviction as that of science. The volume of a mountain range, for instance, is an image of the natural world: the mountain range is made of scales, and the scales are the scales of the human mind. In our imagination, the scales become the scales of knowledge.We live in an age when we are studying nature, but do not know it.

The work has four-sided formats. Each piece measures 11 1/4 x 12 3/4".Bevin has suggested that his work is in some way related to or connected to his process of painting. Some of the examples in this show are crude, plain in the materials. The canvas was brought in from France in a canvas factory, and the paint was hand applied to a sheet of wooden planks. The inclusions in the collages are painted on colored wall panels. The surface of the painted wood is used as an in-between surface on which the painted works are situated. The finished wood is then used in the same manner as the painted canvas. A raised iron surface is applied to the wall and cast in paint. The wood is molded into the shape of a fish. The drawing on the wall shows the number 112. The fish is then drawn out from the bottom of the surface and the shape is applied to the canvas. The colors are painted in the same manner as the paintings. Each is rectangular. Each is cast in wood. This work is always repeated and has a depth of texture and color and a very loose, sleek quality.Bevens materials are very eclectic. He has made several series of acrylics and enamels in different materials. He has made wall pieces that combine different types of thread, different wood, and different finishes and levels of applied color. They range from pastels to bright oil colors. The most interesting pieces are the four-sided panels. The canvas is not used, as the surfaces are left unpainted and the color is applied on the surface in an oily, heavy matte finish. The color is applied in a larger, opaque, almost transparent area on the surface. The paint has a strong, almost metallic, glaze. The surfaces are painted with the same kind of matte finish as the colors. The work is beautiful.

Its a terrifying face. The artist uses his technique to undo the observer-hero who becomes one with nature. If this seems too long a metaphor, thats because Im just trying to put the pieces together. The artist is responsible for what happens and why.All his pieces come from Western society. They use some ideas and ideas of Western art. But their values are his own. But in contrast to the abstractness of Western art, the values of his are not abstract. The non-Western works are more oppressive than the abstract ones because of their colonial origins. The perverted values are the same as the value of the abstract ones. The abstract paintings are more visceral than the non-Western ones because of their juxtaposition of an outsider with the image of Western society. One of the most disturbing paintings in the show was of a nude figure sitting on a wide chair. The flesh on the chair is turned into a phantom so powerful it appears as if it has lost its sense of depth. Yet the canvas is painted over and over again to accentuate its surface quality. What is a painting then? It is just a body with a phantom in it. The image is a phantasm of its own reality.A double-edged art movement is currently being conducted in the art world. There is an art that is extremely cynical and/or reactionary, and there is an art that seeks to reveal the inner contradictions of nature and society. The cynics are working in a variety of ways. If he lets nature speak, he can be a revolutionary. But there is a series of paintings by Arp that explore the idea of the image as a reality, as an aspect of reality.

This attitude is taught in class and in art schools. Abstract art is not only about the problems of form and the internal structure of objects but also about the material nature of things. In his point of view the abstract artist has the vital activity of thinking and planning. He examines a given thing in detail and then creates the most perfect objects. The best abstract pieces are those which deal with the form and size of things. It is interesting to note that in this show Abstract Art isnt the only topic but is much less related to literature than to natural sciences. Some fine examples of natural forms are also here.
