The most striking one was a work by Noam Chomsky, titled The Conceptual Art of Noam Chomsky. It is a complex collage of over 100 different words, all in black and white, in a brightly colored geometric pattern. The words are found in the book Chomsky wrote in 1973, entitled Language and Society: an introduction to the theoretical foundations of the art world. The pieces have been altered so that they look like they could be printed on a piece of paper. The final piece in the show, titled Some Strange Words, 1994, is a very large wooden block that looks like it could be used as a kind of furniture, and is placed in a triangular array with a single word inscribed on it: NO. It is an intriguing piece of furniture, which does not seem to have any function other than to stand on its own, a quirky object, but one that is not an object at all. The piece also reminds me of the work of the early 60s by Morris Louis.
