But the show is not a retrospective; it is a set of selections from a group of works. The curators are to be commended for the fact that they have selected works of such a high level of quality and a high degree of polish as to be almost as good as the originals. The fact that this is a group of mostly small but highly respected artists is a tribute to the curators for their effort in selecting the best. The paintings are of great quality and have a high degree of polish. The work of the best of the best is a rarefied world. If there are not many of them, then there must be a great many of them. It is time to acknowledge that it is a very difficult and rewarding world, full of treasures.The show is a sort of survey of the major artists of the 60s and 70s.
