__________, or something to that effect. Theres a particularity to the way in which each is an object with its own history. . . . Each is an entity in its own right. It is a complex system of relations and associations that can be identified with every kind of object, from the most basic to the most complex. Its like an endless loop of concrete-decorative associations. By juxtaposing these two collections, the artist points to the complex interrelationships that are made by objects and their structures, which are made by the mind.

Thats why i love the new work, says artist/writer/musician Kim Smith, in a catalogue essay for the exhibition, which featured the artists work as well as many of his paintings and sculptures. In his 2013 book, The New York Times Book of 2008, Smith writes that the word New York is an expression of the New World. Smiths work is a kind of New York, New York. It is a city where you cant forget that youre in, where you cant forget the city, or that youre out. Thats why i love it. Smith is a New Yorker.He recently exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, where he made a number of works inspired by the New York Citys many forms of resistance: the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and the Brooklyn Museum. Smith uses the New York City subway system as a starting point for his paintings and sculptures. In New York, New York, New York, New York, he writes, the human form is an abstract sign. It is an image, a signifier. It is a representation of the world, a signifier. It is a metaphor for the human condition. It is a symbol for human existence. It is a sign of hope.Smiths works are also composed of objects. In the New York City subway, for example, there are two buildings that are not New York: the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Museum. New York, New York, New York, New York, Smith writes, is a place of resistance. The resistance to New York is a resistance to the city. New York is a place of hope. The hope is that when New York is broken, New York is made whole again.

Theres no real need for this kind of thing, but it doesnt seem to matter. What matters is how far you can push your imagination and your vision, how much you can imagine what you are seeing. I mean, Im not sure that Im seeing anything at all anymore, Im not sure I care what I am seeing, but Im sure I am seeing a lot. Like this. This, the first solo exhibition by the artist in the US, came with a foreboding title: The Presenting Age, 2020. The show featured two kinds of work: paintings and collages. In the paintings, the artist reimagined his earlier work, which consisted of a group of small canvases, some with emojis, and others with text: I AM A GIRL I AM A GIRL, I AM A MOMA I AM A MOMA, I AM A MELA I AM A MELA, I AM A LITTLE I AM A LITTLE. In one of the paintings, a collage of words is printed on a single sheet of paper, which the artist then affixed to the surface of the canvas with a small wrench. The collage is based on a photograph, an image of a tree, a landscape, a life-size model of a human head, and a photograph of a tree. In another painting, a dark blue rectangle is painted over a photo of a tree, the text is written in black, and the images are taken from the same photograph. The paintings are printed on canvas.In the collages, the artist uses the same approach, but instead of making collages he uses his hands to create a design, and then blows up the resulting image, which he then affixes to the canvas. The result is a crudely drawn design on a large sheet of paper, which is then glued onto the surface of the canvas. The result is a series of paintings, each of which includes a single drawing, and each of which has an individual image. The artist makes the drawings, prints them on canvas, and then blows up the works.
